Center for Bioenergy and Photosynthesis at Arizona State University. This premiere site is dedicated to bioenergy research and education including algal research. Formerly the Photosynthesis Center at ASU.

AIMS, research site based at the Australian Institute of Marine Science. Good sized site containing large amounts of information regarding their research as well as other marine life.

Balaton Limnological Research Institute. Site describes the research at this institute in Hungary.

Baltic Sea Portal (former). Monitors and relates information about phytoplankton and cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea at the Finnish Institute of Marine Research. Formerly the Baltic Sea Agl@line; Baltic Sea Portal content redistributed.

Bedford Institute of Oceanography. Canada's largest centre for ocean research. Basically, information about their institute and programs.

Geomar at the Institute for Marine Studies Kiel (IfM Kiel). Its purpose is to study biological processes in the pelagic ecosystem.

CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research. Conducting research in the sustainable use of Australia's marine resources, the ocean's role in climate, and the effective conservation of the marine ecosystem integrity.

Dauphin Island Sea Lab. An Alabama site that has its interests set in marine research and education. Extensive outreach programs.

Department of Marine Botany, part of the Botanical Institute, Göteborg University, Sweden and of the Göteborg Marine Research Center. Concentrates on research and education in marine natural sciences.

Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at Florida Atlantic University. A leader in research and outreach education since 1971.

Catalogue of Indian Ocean Benthic Algae, at University of California at Berkeley.. Started as a reference in order to catalogue algae in the region (Indian Ocean). An extensive site dealing with taxonomy and nomenclature. Also contains a search engine for its bibliographic references.

Center for Hydrology and Ecology. UK group through Natural Environment Research Council that works in the arena of freshwater sciences bringing together two disciplines. Formerly the Institute of Fresh Water Ecology.

Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. A Greecian site for Mediterranean research. Formerly the The Institute of Marine Biology of Crete.

Israel Oceanographic & Limnological Research Ltd. (IOLR), includes several research centers (The National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Haifa, the Yigal Allon Kinneret Limnological Laboratory (KLL) near Tiberias and the National Center for Mariculture (NCM) in Elat) dedicated to aquatic research.

Marine Biology Lab, Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University, deals with marine research and education. It also focuses on marine biotechnology and biomedicine. Linked with Duke's Pearse Memorial library.

Marine Science Center, a unit of Northeastern University. The center supports a broad variety of research and education programs in marine biology and related fields.

The Marine Science Institute (MSI). A nonprofit science and environmental education organization located in California. Resources for highly active outreach and family education program.

Marine Sciences Research Center, SUNY at Stony Brook School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) is a center for marine research, graduate education, and public service. Contains detailed commentary regarding their various programs.

Landau Family Microalgal Biotechnology Laboratory at the J. Blaustein Institute for Desert Research Ben Gurion University as part of the FrenchAssociates Institute for Agriculture & Biotechnology of Drylands. One goal is to develop the biotechnology involved in mass production of microalgae for various commercial purposes.

National Oceanographic Data Center - NODC. One of three NOAA environmental data centers, and serves as a national repository and dissemination facility for global ocean data.

Oceanic Ocean Information Center at University of Maryland. Contains information regarding oceanographic research.

Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo. Their goal is cooperative research in ocean sciences in Japan. Offers varied resources in wide range of oceanic topics.

Canada's Invertebrates education site at University of Guelph. Focuses on freshwater and marine invertebrates including algae. Formerly PlanktonNet.

Institute of Ocean Sciences in British Columbia studies the interactions between the oceans and climate to provide information about basic productivity of the ocean as part of Fisheries and Oceans of Canada.

Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Science, Sopot. Focuses on research in marine physics, dynamics, chemistry, biochemistry, and ecology and contains many resources rleated to marine ecology and research projects.

NOAA Physical Sciences Division. Located in Colorado, NOAA performs oceanic and atmospheric research and develops remote sensing systems.

Protist Image Database at University of Montreal. Contains images and information on selected genera of algae and protozoa and resources in other related fields.

Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Miami. Mainly information about their program.

Sars International Center for Marine Molecular Biology at Bergen University in Norway. The major focus is on the molecular biology of marine animals, with emphasis on functional and ideally comparative studies.

Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Univ. California San Diego. Their goal is to seek, teach, and communicate deep scientific understanding of the oceans, atmosphere, Earth, and other planets for the benefit of society and the environment. Lists various projects in many different areas of study.

Seaweed Homepage, University College, Galway. Has information on all aspects of seaweeds and marine algal biology. Contains Algaebase which is a searchable database of algae. A venerable user friendly site.

Shoals Marine Laboratory run by Cornell and University of New Hampshire. Information about their program and studying marine science in their facility.

Checklist of phytoplankton in the Skagerrak-Kattegat. Has information on phytoplankton and heterotrophic protists found in the Skagerrak and the Kattegat, N. Atlantic Ocean. Contains, images, references, and information regarding diatoms, dinoflagellates, and other plankton.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Marine Biological Laboratory. Oldest private marine laboratory in the western hemisphere, dedicated to teaching and research. Has extensive site full of resources and a catalog of marine organisms.
